I have written this book to aid you as best I can toward that elusive place of excellence in landscape painting. While I was given lessons as a child, I still consider myself predominantly self-taught. Though my time in front of the easel with my beloved painting teacher gave me a confidence with the medium and an ability to look a blank canvas square in the face and not shrink back from the challenge, I was left lacking in most things but the very basic of concepts. It has been through a lifetime of study and discovery that I have learned and mastered landscape painting. And so, the purpose of this book is to impart some of my knowledge and advice that you might advance to a higher plane of painting; to help you where you may be experiencing the frustration of not knowing how or having the boldness to undertake the painting you know you have inside you waiting to get out and onto the canvas.
